Blackouts & Power Outages

Power outages may occur due to faults within the electricity network, severe weather, planned maintenance or electrical issues affecting the surrounding area.

Check for Network Outages First

Before taking any action, check whether the outage is affecting the wider area by visiting the Ausgrid Outages website: https://www.ausgrid.com.au/outages

Please note that it may take up to 10 minutes for outage information to appear on the Ausgrid website after a fault occurs. Building Management is unable to assist with a electricity network outage.

Building Access During a Blackout

During a power outage, the building’s access control system will not operate normally.

To ensure residents can safely enter and exit the building, please note the following:

  • Entry gates and lobby doors will automatically remain in an unlocked state until power is restored.
  • The fob access system will not function.
  • Residents should use the main stairwells to access their apartments.

Level 2, 4 and 6 of the Eastern Building

Residents in the Eastern Building on Levels 2, 4 and 6 do not have direct access to a main stairwell. These residents should have access to a physical key to access the fire stairs on their levels.

Apartment Access

During a power outage, apartment access fobs will not operate.

Residents must ensure they have access to a physical key for their apartment at all times.

Access to your apartment is the responsibility of the resident. Building Management cannot provide access to individual apartments during a power outage.

Accessing the Car Park

If you are in the car park or need to access the car park during a blackout, you can access the building via either of the following routes:

Option 1

Use the resident entry located in the centre of the car park to access the Northern Walkway.

Option 2

Exit the car park adjacent to the garage door and re-enter the building via the Oatley Road gate and main lobby entrance.

Vehicle Access During a Blackout

The garage door will remain locked during a power outage.

Instructions are displayed near the garage door motor explaining how to place the door into manual override mode.

Manual Override Procedure

In the event of a prolonged outage, the garage door can be switched to manual override mode. Please follow the instructions displayed next to the garage door and shown in the diagram below (click to open full screen):

Lift Operation During a Power Outage

The lifts will not operate during a power outage.

Residents should use the stairwells until power is restored.

If You Become Trapped in a Lift

If you become trapped inside a lift:

  • Remain calm.
  • Emergency lighting will operate within the lift cabin.
  • Press the emergency call button.
  • You will be connected to a 24-hour monitoring service who will arrange assistance.
  • Do not attempt to force open the lift doors or exit the lift without assistance.

Emergency responders and lift technicians will attend as required.

Residents Requiring Assistance

Residents who rely on electrically powered medical equipment or who may require assistance during a prolonged outage should ensure they have an appropriate contingency plan and contact emergency services if required.

For life-threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
