Noise

Paddington Central is a residential community where peaceful enjoyment of your home is a shared right. All residents and visitors are expected to minimise noise and be mindful of how their activities affect others.

General Noise Rules

  • Residents must not create noise that is likely to disturb neighbours – including loud voices, music, TVs, or other devices.
  • Slamming doors, particularly entry doors, should be avoided.
  • Avoid talking loudly in hallways, foyers and stairwells. These spaces are tiled and highly reflective, which means sound travels and echoes easily. Even short conversations can disturb nearby apartments.
  • Noise from within apartments, balconies, terraces, or courtyards must not penetrate neighbouring lots or common areas.

Events & Gatherings

  • If you’re planning a gathering that may involve increased noise (e.g. a party or celebration), you must notify your immediate neighbours at least 72 hours in advance.
  • Noise must be kept within reasonable levels at all times, and events should conclude at a respectful hour.
  • Residents are responsible for ensuring that guests do not compromise building security or disturb others when arriving or leaving.

Time Considerations

  • Be particularly mindful of noise during the following times:
    • Weeknights: After 9:00pm
    • Weekends: Before 8:00am and after 10:00pm
    • These are not hard curfews, but common courtesy is expected.

Repeated Noise Disturbances

If you experience ongoing noise issues:

  • First, try and speak directly with your neighbour in a respectful manner.
  • If the issue continues, please contact the Building Manager to begin the formal complaints process.

Renovation & Construction Noise

Paddington Central supports residents improving their homes — but all renovation work must be carried out with consideration for neighbours. Construction noise is one of the most common sources of complaints in apartment living, so strict rules apply to minimise disruption.

Renovation Work Hours

All noisy renovation work must be limited to:

  • Monday to Friday: 8:00am – 5:00pm
  • No work on weekends or public holidays

This includes any use of:

  • Power tools (e.g. drills, saws, hammers, grinders)
  • Demolition, grinding, or jackhammering
  • Any other activities that produce loud, repetitive noise

Resident Responsibilities

  • Inform neighbours of the nature and duration of the works
  • Ensure all contractors are aware of the building’s work hours and noise policies
  • Ensure noise does not extend outside of the approved hours — even minor work must stop by 5:00pm

Extended or Disruptive Work

If your work involves multiple days of high-impact noise (e.g. floor grinding or tiling demolition), Building Management may:

  • Request additional notice to neighbouring apartments
  • Impose conditions to manage noise impact
  • Require scheduling adjustments if complaints are received

Unauthorised or Excessive Noise

Excessive or unauthorised noise outside of permitted hours may result in:

  • Warnings issued by Building Management or Strata Committee
  • Orders to stop work
  • Potential fines or rectification orders under strata law
